FRANCK JEANGUILLAUME

Trainer

My equestrian journey started 30 years ago with a former officer of the Cadre Noir of Saumur, France which ingrained in me the classical approach to my training. This early training taught me the importance of compassion, perseverance and dedication but also patience and attention to detail.

Over the years and even now I keep an open mind as to how to adapt the skills and knowledge that I have acquired over the years to meet the training needs of the horse. I too am always learning and I strongly believe that a good horse trainer never takes a fixed approach or a system for granted.

I believe that my mixed career of training horses alongside stunt riding and  film work around Europe has taught me to never expect and that the horse is my greatest teacher. As a Trainer our job is to listen and observe. I never expect the same pattern of training to work for all horses. Sure, we all follow a path as that gives structure but it is just as important to have the confidence and ability to sit back and think to find another way if a system is not working

In all of my work I am a firm believer in starting with groundwork. Most things that can be ridden can be taught from the ground which is not only- safer but I find gives a more reliable secure outcome. A horse taught slowly with patience and understanding is far safer than one taught quickly through fear or with force. However, my approach takes time, although often saves a lot of time further down the line.

My overall philosophy is never impose yourself on the horse but let the horse talk.
